Because conscious fashion isn’t just about what you wear – it’s about what you choose to leave behind.

There was a time when a weekend wasn’t complete without a quick online order or an impromptu haul from a fast fashion store. I’d scroll through dozens of options, fill my cart, and hit “checkout” without thinking twice. New trends, cheap thrills, and the dopamine rush of a new delivery – it was all part of the cycle.
But somewhere along the way, especially as I began learning more about the fashion industry and sustainability, I started asking myself: Why am I buying all of this? And what’s the real cost?
This Earth Month, I’m reflecting on the conscious habits that have changed my life – and surprisingly, one of the most powerful was simply buying less. Here’s a look at what I’ve stopped buying and why letting go has brought me so much more joy.
✖️1. Fast Fashion Hauls
I used to love the thrill of a big haul – bags filled with $10 tops and trendy pieces I’d wear once, maybe twice. But hose hauls came at a high cost: poor quality, unfair labor, and a whole lot of waste. Once I understood what was behind the price tag, I couldn’t unsee it. Now, I save that money for brands that align with my values – or skip the purchase altogether.
✖️2. One-Time Trend Pieces
From the “it” boots of the season to that neon dress I had to have, I was a sucker for fashion FOMO. These days, I’m learning to resist the pressure. Instead, I gravitate towards timeless, versatile pieces that I can style in multiple ways and love for years to come.
✖️3. Cheap Accessories
Impulse earrings, poorly made bags, and fast-fashion sunglasses that barely lasted the summer – I’ve moved on. I now invest in fewer, better accessories that are either ethically made, secondhand, or truly meaningful to me. Quality over clutter, every time.
✖️4. “Backup” Buys
I used to buy outfits “just in case” – just in case I had a wedding, a party, a job interview. They usually sat in the back of my closet, tags still on, never worn. Now, I trust my closet. I’ve learned to style what I already own creatively and fill real gaps when they appear, not imaginary ones.

👚What I Do Instead
Quitting my over-shopping habit didn’t mean losing my love for fashion. It meant deepening it.
- I thrift and swap with friends.
- I keep a wishlist and wait before purchasing.
- I re-wear my favorite pieces proudly.
- I support brands that value people and the planet.
The joy of discovering a well-made, ethical piece or styling something I’ve had for years far outweighs the thrill of a quick buy.
💖How It’s Changed Me
Letting go of the urge to constantly buy has cleared more than just space in my closet – it’s cleared space in my mind. I feel calmer, more confident, and more connected to the way I dress. My wardrobe isn’t overflowing, but it’s full of pieces I love, wear, and respect.
🌍Your Turn
This Earth Month, I encourage you to reflect on your own fashion habits. Is there something you’ve stopped buying – or want to?
Try going one week without shopping. Instead, restyle an old favorite, repair something, or simply enjoy what you already have. You might be surprised how amazing it feels.
